Deborah Son selected as new Executive Director of the Family Violence Appellate Project

The Scion Executive Search team and Executive Search Principal Ex Hopson are thrilled to share that Deborah Son has been identified as the Family Violence Appellate Project’s incoming Executive Director! Deborah brings over a decade of experience in domestic violence advocacy and team leadership. A true servant leader, Deborah offers deep experience with community-based participatory strategies – ensuring those who are impacted by services are included at the decision-making tables.

Throughout her career, Deborah has served as a domestic violence advocate, a crisis counselor and victim advocate, a trainer for fellow advocates, and more. She has designed and implemented psychosocial programs to support both survivors and their communities. Deborah shared with us, “Much of my service and advocacy career has been dedicated to ending gender-based violence, advancing equitable care, and advocating for families to have the resources they need to thrive. I have committed myself to service in these issue areas to further combat racism and institutional marginalization.”

In addition to being certified as a rape crisis counselor as well as a domestic violence victim counselor, Deborah holds a Master of Social Work from California State University East Bay and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California.
