Scion Nonprofit Staffing an award-winning full-service staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of Individual Giving for a prominent nonprofit performing arts organization based in New York, NY. This full-time position presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraising leader to drive individual giving initiatives and expand donor engagement within a dynamic and creative environment.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Individual Giving will oversee fundraising efforts with a focus on cultivating individual donors, managing donor relations, and executing strategic fundraising campaigns. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this role will be responsible for achieving annual fundraising goals exceeding $5 million through membership, philanthropic, and major gifts programs. The successful candidate will lead a team dedicated to growing individual support and enhancing donor stewardship.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fundraising Strategy and Execution
Develop and implement strategies to raise more than $5M annually, including oversight of acquisitions, upgrades, increases, renewals, and benefit fulfillment.
Lead the growth of the organization’s high-level donor programs, serving over 700 donor households annually.
Oversee major gift initiatives, including project- and production-specific campaigns, securing gifts over $50,000.
Directly manage a portfolio of approximately 150 prospects, including identification, cultivation, and solicitation efforts.
Conduct at least 100 prospect meetings annually and maintain detailed activity reports and move management information
Team Leadership and Collaboration
Supervise the Individual Giving team, including Major Gifts Officer, Individual Giving Manager, and Development Assistant.
Collaborate with the core fundraising team to meet income goals for annual fundraising events.
Partner with the Director of Development Operations and Strategy on data modeling, projections, tracking, and wealth screening initiatives.
Collaborate cross-departmentally with Marketing, Ticketing Services, Artistic, Literary, and Business teams to maximize fundraising impact.
Donor Relations and Stewardship
Lead donor engagement and stewardship activities, including cultivation events, receptions, and special gatherings.
Oversee activities for the organization’s leadership giving council, including quarterly meetings.
Promote positive donor relations and ensure high standards of donor communication and stewardship
Represent the organization at special events, including opening nights, donor evenings, and galas.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in frontline fundraising, with at least 3 years in a management role.
Proven success in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding 5- and 6-figure commitments.
Strong leadership and supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team.
Experience in a performing arts or cultural organization preferred, but not required.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on customer service and relationship-building.
Strategic thinker with the ability to be creative, persuasive, and adaptable.
Proficiency with MS Office and donor management systems (experience with Tessitura is a plus).
Knowledge of fundraising principles and best practices.
Willingness to attend evening and weekend events as required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
In addition to a competitive salary range of $100,000–$120,000 annually, this position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and long-term disability insurance, a 401(k) plan, a pension, and a flexible spending account. Paid time off includes vacation with 3 weeks provided (4 weeks after 2 years of service), 5 personal days per season, 6 sick days per season, and paid holidays according to organizational policy.
