Position Summary

Under the supervision of the firm Principal and Owner, this exciting role serves as an indispensable part of our client’s Public Finance Office. The primary responsibilities of the Public Finance Paralegal are to provide direct assistance to department attorneys and staff in the due diligence investigation and resultant preparation of disclosure offering documents for Public Finance.

The Public Finance Paralegal is a detail-oriented role and requires an ability to exercise sound judgment and routinely utilize exceptional written and verbal communication skills. This role provides proactive support to firm attorneys and frequently calls upon your well-established familiarity with key legal principles, your commitment to incredible accuracy, and excellent time management skills.

 

Duties

  • Examine, evaluate and summarize large quantities of information with respect to public financings, including numerical data.
  • Review financial statements of governmental entities for the purpose of incorporating data into documentation.
  • Complete research and determine compliance of public entities.
  • Compile, proofread, and revise drafts of legal documents.
  • Prepare drafts of basic disclosure documents, including the initial drafting of multiple sections within public offering documents
  • Attend and participate in drafting sessions, make necessary revisions to primary documents as needed.
  • Perform due diligence to verify information and data contained in the offering of disclosure document, review of financial information from public entities, county assessor and treasurer data, including statistical data.
  • Coordinate the printing of the offering document and the distribution of documents to participants.
  • Develop and maintain research files including demographic and economic statistics.
  • Draft legal documents including briefs, pleadings, appeals, agreements, contracts and legal memoranda.
  • File all documents as required, recording relative information in spreadsheets and appropriate databases.
  • Maintain relevant computer software knowledge and experience; implement a variety of software, such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, NetDocuments, Clio, etc.
  • Champion routine correspondence and maintain telephone contact with clients and consult the supervising attorney for legal advice when necessary.

 

Experience Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of proven experience as a paralegal; recent experience with public finance, specifically election and public-education focused State and Federal Sources bonds experience is required!  
  • Ability to interact with a wide array of individuals at all levels.
  • History with successfully expediting competing demands in a high-volume work environment.
  • Self-direction is essential; you understand how to work effectively in independent settings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively internally and externally.
  • Flexibility with work hours! You must be available to be on call and willing to work overtime; there are evening social events which will require your presence!
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented outlook; you will anticipate support needs of attorneys across a variety of legal matters. When the need arises, you will be responsible to identify and resolve or escalate issues in a timely manner.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal terminology, legal principles, and practices. Deep understanding of new money issuances, refinancing existing debt, time warrants, certificates of participation, post compliance, and due diligence (15C2-12).



Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associates degree in paralegal studies
  • Paralegal certification- highly preferred!

 

Compensation

In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, this role offers full-time immediate employment at a competitive base salary with the ability to receive overtime pay.
