Scion Executive Staffing(www.scionexecutivesearch.com) has been retained to conduct a search for an immediate hire Interim Nonprofit Chief Operating Officer for our client, an established philanthropic association dedicated to developing leadership opportunities for diverse and skilled professionals and organizations. This is a very exciting role with a collaborative and passionate team on a fully remote basis! Our client is based in Washington, DC. 
 
OVERVIEW 
The Interim Nonprofit Chief Operating Officer will bring a customer service orientation to support the human resource, DE&I, financial management, IT, and administrative needs of the organization. This is a full time, interim position reporting to the CEO. The incoming Interim COO will help drive talent management, organizational culture and will assist in creating a five-year strategic plan alongside the executive leadership team. 
 
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING 
Human Resources Management  
-Continually develop human resources administration to meet the needs of a growing, diverse national staff; enhance professional development, performance evaluation, staff, and management training. 
-Ensure that the organization is applying DE&I principles into every area of its culture, policies, and practices. 
-Facilitate the recruiting process for open positions and increasing organizational diversity by designing efficient and inclusive hiring strategies. 
-Ensure that managers receive guidance, training, and coaching on human resource policy interpretation, issue resolution, and staff development and retention. 
-Oversee employee on-boarding, payroll and benefits administration, performance review process, and employee departure processing. 
-Monitor staff satisfaction 
-Maintain current human resource policies, employee manual, and personnel files. 
Financial Management  
-Analyze and present financial results in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, projections, and critical financial matters to the organizations leadership and the Board. 
-Oversee organizational cash flow and forecasting; ensure both restricted and unrestricted cash flows support operational requirements. Work in partnership with each budget owner to ensure the appropriate use, tracking and reporting of monies in accordance with donor requirements. 
-Ensure accurate and compliant financial, project/program, and grants reporting, with focus on meeting the financial terms of grant awards and successfully utilizing all restricted grant funds. 
-Maximize efficiency of financial systems and processes; ensure sufficient capacity exists to handle growing volume and complexity as the organization expands. 
Operations & Risk Management  
-Maintain active business status in all states in which the organization operates, including valid solicitations permits, current business registration, current insurance coverage, timely tax filings etc. 
-Oversee all of the organization’s internal operations in partnership with local office directors and administrative staff. Ensure organization wide compliance with contract terms and policies. 
-Work with local office directors and administrative staff to ensure the adequacy, safety and security of office space and that appropriate office management and security systems and procedures are in place. 
-Supervise General Counsel and partner on ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and risk-mitigation. 
Information Technology  
-Ensure current technology infrastructure supports the security of our data and systems, growth of specific programs and the organization overall 
-Oversee all locations’ office infrastructure to ensure it can support current and future growth. 
-Ensure office hardware and software tools are current and meet business needs and that staff are trained in their use. 
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL 
-Experience as a COO or director of operations, preferably in a nonprofit setting. 
-The ability to work effectively from home. 
-Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. 
-Experience working with Google Suite and Microsoft Office suite; comfortable learning new software systems quickly. 
-Acute attention to detail. 
-Ability to adapt to change quickly. 
-Comfortable working with tight deadlines. 
-Ability to be proactive and anticipate needs. 
 
COMPENSATION 
This position offers competitive pay of $75-82/hr. (based on experience), remote work, as well as health, dental, vision and other benefits! This position works on an amazing team and makes an incredible impact on people all around the world!
