(www.scionnonprofitstaffing.com), a full-service national staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct a search for a Public Relations Director of DEI for our client, a well-known nonprofit organization championing animal welfare in Washington, DC. This is an amazing and impactful opportunity for a senior nonprofit professional longing to serve as a resource for diversity, equity and inclusion processes, bringing expertise and fluency in these areas to our amazing client! 
 
This unique role requires a combination of skills grounded in organizational development, strategic communications, and knowledge management, in addition to fluency and expertise in diversity, equity and inclusion concepts and practices. Ideal candidates will provide analyses and input on matters of DEI affecting the organization’s external programs and policy work. 
  
What you’ll be doing in this exciting role: 
 
- Implementing diversity, equity and inclusion expertise and best practices across the organization’s programs, policy, and outreach work  
- Establishing metrics, monitoring, and reporting systems to track DEI initiative progress as it relates to external stakeholders 
- Support program teams on program and policy messaging and communication as it relates to DEI 
- Researching and contextualizing all current knowledge on emerging DEI program and policy strategies to later collaborate with senior leaders on the implementation 
   
What you can bring to the opportunity and organization: 
 
- A strong passion and genuine interest in animal advocacy and protection!  
- A passionate commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, including but not limited to: race, gender and social class 
- A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in social justice, public policy, or equivalent work experience required 
- Demonstrated DEI expertise in executing a strategy and driving cross-functional teams to deliver the strategy  
- Demonstrated experience nonprofit advocacy required 
- Keen project management skills; ability to drive simultaneous, complex projects to measurable success while aligning with organizational strategy 
- Project management experience in a related field, which has included management and leadership responsibilities for staff, strategy development, and execution strongly preferred. 
- Impeccable oral and written communication skills coupled with the experience of managing and carrying out a strategic communications plan 
- You are ALWAYS proactive, organized and value interpersonal professional relationships 
- Documented effectiveness in development and implementation of strategic plans that support a bold mission 
- Proficient use of quantitative and qualitative data/information to both tell a story and evaluate success with a diverse audience 
 
Compensation & Benefits: 
 
This exciting opportunity offers the ability to make a significant impact as a leader at a premier animal welfare organization dedicated to ending animal cruelty globally. Starting compensation includes a competitive annual salary dependent on experience, plus a full benefits package. Paid vacation, holidays, and sick time as well as medical, dental, vision, pet care reimbursement, pawternity leave, and education reimbursement are also included. The 401K has a current match program that grows with tenure.
