 Scion Staffing (www.scionstaffing.com) has been engaged to conduct a search for a Staff Attorney on behalf of our client, an incredible and impactful union dedicated to the optimization of public education state-wide through the advancement of educators professional interests to benefit the students, staff, and communities of Washington State. This position is open to fully remote candidates in the State of Washington with their headquarters in Federal Way, WA.
 
Responsibilities:
-Prepare and present cases before the Public Employment Relations Commission.
-Participate and assist prosecution and defense of litigation in conjunction with the General Counsel.
-Provide legal information and research on employment-related matters.
-Prepare reports on developments in labor, education, and civil rights laws.
-Lead seminars and training sessions for staff and members on legal matters.
-Ensure members are provided consistent legal advice and awareness of services.
-Deliver consistent and positive client communication.
-Perform other functions as assigned by the General Counsel in support of the organization’s goals.
 
Experience & Requirements:
-Licensed to practice law in the State of Washington.
-Member of the WSBA in good standing.
-Previous litigation experience preferred.
-Strong knowledge of labor and employment law.
-Proven success managing multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
-Superb written and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to maintain flexibility in a complex organizational structure.
-Exceptional attention to detail.
-Positive attitude and dependable nature.
 
Compensation & Perks:
-This position offers a competitive salary (DOE) along with fully paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Medical, dental and vision are fully paid for the employee and their family.
-Generous sick and paid time off (PTO). 202.5 hrs. PTO (27 days); 105 hrs. Sick (14 days) annually. Standard holidays are observed as well. Eight additional days off are given at Christmas (Winter break), and five additional days in July (Summer break).
-401(k) with 8% current employer contribution which may vary from contract to contract.  
-2% salary differential for staff attorneys.
-Defined Benefit Plan (Staff Retirement Plan) with a 1% employee contribution. Full vesting occurs after 5 years of employment. If the employee leaves/terminates employment prior to vesting, the 1% contribution will be refunded along with the interest earned on those contributions.
-$1200.00 Training/Wellness Account – replenished annually to a maximum account balance of $2400.00.
-$900.00 Revolving Account (to assist with out-of-pocket expenses).
-The employer will pay professional dues, required licensing, or certifications that are a requirement of the employee’s assignment.
-The employer will pay 5 days of Optional Day Pay for Level 5 employees at the employee’s current per diem rate of pay. These days are paid in December of each year unless the employee chooses to defer the payment until June of the following year.
-Employees are reimbursed for reasonable meal, lodging and transportation expenses incurred while carrying out the employers’ assignments.
-Each new employee will be provided an orientation and be assigned a mentor.
