Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a high priority search for a Family Specialist for our client, a nonprofit who strives to reunite children in the foster care system with their family in the Northwest Ohio region. Overview
The Family Specialist will work closely with the Regional Director to ensure the service delivery and capacity building objectives of the program are successfully met within their region. This organization believes in the philosophy that family cares for family. This position requires an individual who is collaborative and can effectively work amongst several teams.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Collaborate with the Public Children Service Agency (PCSA) case manager and court officials with meeting the Fostering Connections to Success Act, applicable Ohio statutes, and Ohio Department of Job and Family Services policy regarding relative/kin notification and placement.
  • Research information from relatives/kin to expand the child’s support system and family connections, while identifying potential relative home providers.
  • Identify and document at least 80 family/kin for each child through Family Finding search activities, including: internet & database searches, Children’s Division and Juvenile Court case file reviews, child & family interviews.
  • Facilitate communication with the team and provide the referring agencies with accurate family documentation, including genograms, family contact information, and identified kin supports.
  • Attend all meetings and court hearings, advocating for relative/kin placement.
  • Complete assessments on the child and family functioning upon case referral and case closure to measure the success and outcomes of the program.
  • Assist in preparing the family for licensure by explaining the licensing process and assisting with home licensing requirements.
  • Submit detailed activity notes and documentation of all case related billing activities to submit to multiple funders.
  • Maintain accurate files and records for each family served.
 
What You Need to Be Successful
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, drug and alcohol education or criminology.
  • Supervisory experience and maturity to work independently.
  • Flexibility with work hours to meet the needs of children and families.
  • Demonstrated experience working with interdisciplinary teams utilizing advanced strategies to overcome barriers.
  • Direct experience in the child welfare sector with knowledge of foster care and adoption.
  • Ability to think outside of the box to creatively approach obstacles.
  • Experience with conflict resolution, negotiation, and team facilitation.
  • Strong desire to contribute and make a positive impact on children in the foster care system.
  • Adaptability, a high level of organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills- must be personable.
  • Ability to display understanding and empathy.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to identify unique needs specific to various diverse populations.
  • Tactful and professional demeanor is sensitive situations.
