Scion Nonprofit has been engaged to conduct a search for a Lead Organizer on behalf of an impactful nonprofit organization dedicated the political empowerment of Black communities in Atlanta, GA! This exciting and new position offers an opportunity to make a direct and crucial impact at the municipal, state, and federal level.
 
The Lead Organizer is a junior level position that directly reports to the State Manager. The ideal candidate for this position shares a passion for grassroot movements, Black political empowerment, and voting rights. The Lead Organizer will be responsible for coordinating programmatic and strategic initiatives to further enhance community relationships, partnerships, and collaborations. This person will also effectively manage campaigns that actively engage Black voters across the state as well as lead volunteer groups to advance the organization’s mission.
 
This is a full time, direct hire, and locally remote opportunity. This position has a target start date of March 1st.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Actively engage, educate and activate the Black community in the Black Belt Region, Georgia.
  • Expand the electorate by motivating and inspiring new people to become politically engaged and build independent Black political power.
  • Execute strategic campaigns to help the organization build independent Black political power.
  • Develop and lead activities that connect current and potential supporters to the organization, while moving them up a ladder of engagement.
  • Identify prospective grassroots donors and funders and develop strategies to cultivate those relationships.
  • Conduct nonpartisan voter registration efforts targeting Black voters.
  • Achieve assigned metrics and goals, building out the organization’s supporter community through outreach, 1-1’s, relationship building, leadership development, political education, and regular engagement.
  • Advance the campaigns of the organization through relational organizing, issue research, power analysis, 1-1’s with volunteers and other stakeholders.
  • Build local volunteer teams while developing the capacity of communities to build and wield political power.
  • Develop, sustain, and expand active relationships with partner organizations.
  • Identify, develop & maintain new organizing relationships with Black-led grassroots organizations.
  • Regularly track and document active campaigns and priority issues of partner organizations, while identifying and implementing ways to support.
  • Represent and partake in local coalition tables and other networking opportunities/events.
 
Qualifications:
  • Extensive field organizing and volunteer management experience.
  • Extensive demonstrated experience utilizing traditional and new organizing tactics/strategies to engage Black communities (i.e canvassing, house meetings, SMS campaigns & virtual events).
  • Very well organized; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues and outside organizations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative, team-oriented work environment.
  • Demonstrated previous experience organizing in Black communities in Georgia.
  • Demonstrated experience with both issue and electoral organizing.
  • Experience working with VAN or Votebuilder is required. EveryAction experience is a plus.
 
Compensation & Benefits:
This amazing opportunity offers a competitive salary in the $70,000-$80,000 range (depending on experience) as well a competitive health benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, and a generous paid time off schedule.
