Scion Nonprofit Staffing, has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for a Foundation and Corporate Grants Writer on behalf of our amazing client, an impactful organization that provides meals, groceries, and nutrition counseling in Washington DC. This is an incredible direct-hire opportunity for an experienced grants writer looking to relocate to the DC area and work to identify, cultivate solicit, and steward current and prospective funders!

Responsibilities:
Strategy, Relationship Management and Grant Writing
  • Develop, manage, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 100 to 125 prospective and current funders.
  • Prepare and edit customized LOI’s, concept notes, proposals, presentations, correspondence, supporting materials, budgets, reports and funder briefings.
  • Create and manage a multi-year grants plan and calendar with a schedule for prospecting; deadlines for proposals, grant applications and reports; site visits; and funder stewardship.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with foundation and corporate officers by routine communication via phone, mail, email, and personal/site visits.
  • Work closely with leadership team to identify program priorities for operating, capital, and special initiatives to support budgeted goals.
  • Develop strategies and coordinate with program staff to develop content and integrate objectives/outcomes into grant proposals.
  • Collaborate with program staff to identify the appropriate fit between funder guidelines and programmatic objectives.
  • Coordinate with finance to develop budgets and budget narratives.
Prospect Research and Relationship Development
  • Conduct research to qualify funders and build a robust pipeline.
  • Develop and implement cultivation and stewardship strategies.
  • Reach out to potential funders to gauge program alignment and secure new sources of private and corporate foundation support.
  • Develop gift table and prospect list to ensure a prospect to donor conversion rate (minimum 3:1) to meet or exceed annual revenue targets.
  • Participate in the client’s special fundraising events as needed.
Grant Reporting and Administration
  • Track proposals, conversations, meetings, communication, and next steps by regularly updating constituent records in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Ensure timely reporting to donors. 
  • Oversee the reporting and pledge payment schedules for all active grants.
  • Maintain funder files, electronically and hard copy.
 
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Extensive successful foundation and grants related experience.
  • Excellent writing and attention to detail is imperative, to include writing succinctly with excellent grammar, spelling and proof-reading.
  • Ability to initiate and build relationships and work collaboratively with a variety of audiences, both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to produce and manipulate computer-generated documents utilizing Microsoft Office including proficiency with Word and Excel.
  • Understanding of trends and best practices in foundation and corporate giving.
  • Knowledge of advanced grant management techniques.
  • Skill in creating and delivering public presentations.
  • A self-starter, capable of working independently and under tight and sometimes competing deadlines.
  • Experience and proficiency in working with donor database software, preferably Raiser's Edge.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.

Compensation & Benefits:
