Scion Executive Search, an award-winning national executive search firm has been retained to conduct a search for the incoming Senior Accountant on behalf of our fantastic client, Cartel Pictures. They are a feature film and television production company behind projects like Ties That Bind for Up TV, A Place in the Sun for Discovery, as well as several recent feature films including the hit Christmas With the Campbells alongside Vince Vaughn, Monsters of California with Blink-182 front man Tom DeLonge, Jeepers Creepers 3, Guns Girls & Gambling staring Academy-Award Winner Gary Oldman, and dozens of streaming and TV movies for platforms such as Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Tubi, Hallmark and Lifetime. This hybrid role will help with all accounting and finance functions at this fast-growing organization. This incredible full-time opportunity is located in Los Angeles, CA. This hybrid role will be in the office approximately three days per week.

Position Overview:
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for the financial oversight, bookkeeping, and reporting activities for Cartel Pictures’ corporate branch and individual productions. They will be in charge of the day-to-day accounting and financial procedures, making sure they are accurate and timely. This position will also interface with film unions, production accountants, and production executives to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of payments. The Senior Accountant must have excellent communication skills with an ability to be flexible and adapt to the fast-paced world of film and TV production. 

Responsibility Overview:
  • Manage the company's financial data and compliance by maintaining accurate books on accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and daily financial entries and reconciliations.
  • Review and prepare necessary reports for P&Ls, balance sheets, and cost reports for all finished productions.
  • Establish a process to actively interface with unions (SAG, WGA, DGA) to maintain contracts and correctly track, report, and pay residuals.
  • Provide expertise and oversight for production accountants and executives to generate financial reports and cost breakdowns for current and future productions.
  • Integrate a system to accurately track collections accounts to accelerate compensation.
  • Accurately convert production accountants’ monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports into corporate reports.
  • Create and maintain an internal purchase order system to identify and track goods coming to and from the corporation.
  • Account for and maintain vendor relationships and contracts, including sending out yearly 1099’s.
  • Maintain banking relationships, manage cash flow, and cash reconciliation by performing bank reconciliations and other balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Identify new fiscal resources and approaches that optimize the use of current resources and maximize Cartel’s capacity to deliver and promote excellence and sustained growth.
  • Maintain and update systems and procedures on an as-needed basis.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Prior business management experience with a focus on bookkeeping principles preferred.
  • Expertise in MS Excel, MS Word, and QuickBooks with working knowledge of production accounting software (Entertainment Partners, PSL) preferable but not required.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills and excellent working knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Proactive, highly dependable, and self-motivated to solve problems with a positive attitude, comfortable with a high degree of responsibility in ambiguous situations.
  • Adaptable to a fast-changing work environment while able to work well under stress and tight deadlines that may arise.

Compensation & Benefits:
This fantastic opportunity offers the ability to work in the exciting and dynamic field of film and television production. The hybrid position offers a base salary of $100,000 - $125,000 (DOE) per year and a benefits package that includes payer-contributed medical, sick time, 10 days of paid vacation per full calendar year worked, 11 paid holidays, and a two-week paid industry shutdown at Christmas/the New Year.
