Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search to find a Managing Director, Immigration and Citizenship for our client, one of the nation’s largest legal and civil rights organizations, located in Los Angeles, CA! They serve thousands every year, with a focus on the most vulnerable members of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Managing Director of Immigration and Citizenship oversees the creation, implementation, and assessment of immigration and citizenship legal services operations. As part of the Client Services department, this includes the execution of local, statewide, and national naturalization work, managing the agency’s immigration advocacy, piloting new services based on community need, and other relevant practices.

Reporting to the VP of Programs, the Managing Director oversees program leads and other staff within the Client Services department. This is a hybrid opportunity based in downtown Los Angeles, with satellite offices in Orange County and Sacramento.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise the operation of immigration and citizenship legal services for Los Angeles and Orange County.
  • Administer substantive legal expertise in alignment with program vision and design.
  • Provide daily oversight of program leaders and staff.
  • Monitor issues related to services including managing cooperation, maintaining client expectations and engagements, and foster a team-centered client service model.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and units, including strategy sessions with agency Litigation Director and Policy Director, to properly coordinate client services.
  • Cultivate, maintain, and oversee community partnerships.
  • Assist and instruct community outreach opportunities for programs, including how to inform appropriate responses to community needs and requests.
  • Support media, community stakeholders, and donor communications.
  • Manage the overall budget for relevant programs and current funding, including tracking progress towards deliverables, drafting grant reports, and communications with funders.
  • Advance policies affecting clients in cooperation with other units within the agency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • J.D. and must be an active member of the California State Bar.
  • 6 years of immigration and citizenship legal practice experience, preferably in a traditional poverty law area of practice.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Successful track record of managing program operations and organizational deliverables.
  • Prior experience working with limited English proficient clients; fluency in an Asian language a plus.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to write and speak persuasively to diverse audiences, including public, media, lawyers, advocates, funders, donors, and opinion leaders.
  • Proficiency with using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
*Night and weekend shifts may be required, as well as occasional travel.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
