Scion Executive Search (SES) has been retained to conduct a search for a Chief People Officer on behalf of our fantastic client, LifeWorks, a fearless advocate for youth and young adults pursuing a life they love and a stable future for themselves and their families.

ABOUT LIFEWORKS:
LifeWorks was created in 1998 through the merger of Pathways Community Counseling, Child & Family Service, Teenage Parent Council of Austin, and Youth Options to establish a continuum of support for youth and families experiencing crisis. Every year, LifeWorks advocates for more than 2,500 youth and families, many of whom are facing life’s most difficult challenges, including homelessness, trauma, and abuse. They have 3 core goals for the Austin community’s youth: providing shelter and permanent housing to more than 150 youth on any given night, providing education and workforce programming, and providing office and community-based counseling and mental health services to address conflict and trauma so that youth and families can move forward.

LifeWorks has more than 50 years of experience working with homeless youth, youth aging out of foster care, and young parents. LifeWorks provides 15 programs under the categories of Housing, Counseling, and Education/Workforce. Their service philosophy is strengths-based and client-centered. POSITION OVERVIEW:
As a key member of the Executive Team, the Chief People Officer (CPPLO) leads all human capital and talent functions for LifeWorks, ensuring they directly support and enable staff to achieve the strategic and operational performance of the organization. This involves providing expert coaching and consulting services to senior leaders, leading policy and process improvements that enhance the LifeWorks culture and contributing to strategic planning and development activities.

Reporting the Chief Executive Officer, the CPPLO will ensure human capital processes and initiatives are aligned with LifeWorks' vision, mission, values, strategy, and goals, while leading workforce planning and organizational design initiatives aimed at future-proofing the workforce. The CPPLO is responsible for creating and implementing human capital strategies that attract, develop, and retain talent. The CPPLO ensures that all human capital processes are clear, coherent, and effectively utilized, thereby fostering a high-performance environment that drives LifeWorks toward its goals!

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establishes and implements HR strategies, practices, and policies that effectively communicate and support the agency’s values, mission, and strategic vision.
  • Ensures policies, procedures, and Agency activities comply with legal requirements, government regulations, and best practices affecting HR functions, employee relations, and all aspects of the employee lifecycle. 
  • Represents the HR department on the Agency’s senior leadership team, participates in the development and implementation of Agency strategic planning, and leads key initiatives assigned to the CPPLO role.
  • Responsible for the supervision, evaluation, and dismissal of direct reports, as well as their hiring, orientation, and training, all in accordance with Agency policies and procedures.
  • Fosters a positive Agency culture that aligns with the company’s values and promotes high employee engagement.
  • Leads the development and implementation of strategies for employee recruitment and talent management.
  • Acts as an employee advocate by keeping a pulse on the employee experience, anticipating HR-related needs and trends, and encouraging organizational changes to support employee well-being and retain talent.
  • Leads agency compensation studies and annual benefit renewal strategies; develops and implements comprehensive compensation and benefits plans that are competitive and equitable. 
  • Directs the design and implementation of a holistic performance management system that enhances Agency results and promotes employee development.
  • Manages the integration of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI+B) into the overall identity of the organization.
  • Oversees and implements learning and development programs, including a comprehensive new hire onboarding program, to enhance employee skills and leadership capabilities.
  • Effectively manages and leverages HR systems, data analytics, and technology to support the business needs of the Agency, including the Human Resources Information System and the Learning Management System.
  • Establishes and leads the HR department budget to ensure the efficient and effective use of Agency resources.
  • Serves as a strategic advisor to senior leaders on all human capital matters, offering insights on talent acquisition, workforce planning, and organizational structure, among other areas.
  • Counsels and advises employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, and employee relations issues.
  • Leads succession planning initiatives to build a strong pipeline of future leaders.
  • Creates communications to inform, support, and/or engage employees and leaders.
  • Guarantees high quality customer service of the HR team to internal and external customers through timely, professional, and compassionate support.
  • Ensures the HR department complies with all requirements outlined by funding sources, licensure and accrediting bodies, the program, and the agency. These requirements may pertain to data, paperwork, training, processes, and procedures, among other things.
  • Represents the HR department at leadership meetings and communicates agency and leadership decisions to their team.
  • Prepares for and actively engages in supervision meetings and all other required trainings or meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, General Business, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of generalist experience, including a minimum of 7 years of management experience.
  • Senior leadership experience highly preferred.
  • Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • HR certification preferred (i.e. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
In addition to a competitive base salary of $143,000 - $156,000, LifeWorks offers an excellent benefits package, including health, vision, and group dental insurance, 100% paid Employee Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance, 100% paid Employee Life and AD&D Insurance, Voluntary Life Insurance, Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), 11 observed holidays, up to 24 days of PTO, and quarterly recharge/well-being days!
