Scion Executive Search (www.scionexecutivesearch.com) has been retained to conduct an immediate search for the incoming Chief Executive Officer on behalf of our impactful client, Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF), a supporting fund for correctional professionals killed in the line of duty to provide for their spouses, children, or other beneficiaries and to promote and project a positive image of the corrections profession. CPOF works with public entities, including correctional facilities and the Department of Corrections, to assist correctional staff. In a time of rapid change and opportunity, CPOF seeks a visionary Chief Executive Officer who can drive the organization forward with innovative ideas and strategic growth. The new leader will bring fresh perspectives and steer CPOF toward a future of continued excellence and impact. This is a full-time onsite role based in sunny Sacramento, CA.

ABOUT THE CORRECTIONAL PEACE OFFICERS FOUNDATION (CPOF)
The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the families of correctional professionals who have died in the line of duty. Its mission is to provide financial assistance, advocacy, and emotional support to the loved ones of fallen professionals, preserve their legacy, and recognize their contributions. The CPOF strives to create a supportive and respectful environment for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice through community outreach, memorial events, and resources for correctional professionals and their families. CPOF offers a Catastrophic Assistance Program to support its members facing severe financial hardships due to unforeseen events. This program is designed to assist correctional staff and their families during challenging times. A scholarship program is also offered to support higher education for its members and families. POSITION OVERVIEW:
The CEO of CPOF will be a visionary and compassionate leader responsible for driving the organization's strategic, operational, and financial objectives. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will ensure that CPOF's mission is achieved through effective program management, advocacy, and community engagement. This individual will represent the foundation publicly, develop key partnerships, and work closely with families, stakeholders, donors, and the correctional community to build a support network.

Candidates preferably bring nonprofit management experience and a nuanced understanding of visionary and strategic leadership. Compassion and advocacy are vital for all stakeholders, from volunteers to staff to the families of CPOF. Integral to their success will be a leadership approach characterized by shared decision-making and a relentless pursuit of results. Essential attributes include adaptability, effective communication, approachability, outstanding interpersonal abilities, and a compelling public presence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement the organization’s long-term vision and strategic plan with the Board of Directors.
  • Identify and respond to opportunities for staff and volunteers to contribute their best, foster collaboration, and enhance efficiency, ensuring CPOF remains responsive, relevant, and impactful
  • Drive innovation in programs, processes, technological development, community outreach, and fundraising to enhance the foundation's reach and effectiveness.
Fundraising and Financial Management
  • Develop and lead fundraising strategies to diversify and grow revenue streams, including increasing membership, driving donations, sponsorships, and partnerships.
  • Oversee CPOF's financial health, ensuring responsible budgeting, financial planning, and transparency in all financial matters.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish financial goals and regularly report on progress and challenges.

Program Oversight

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of CPOF’s programs, including financial assistance to survivors, memorial events, and community outreach efforts.
  • Ensure that programs meet the needs of correctional professionals' families, and that support is delivered timely and effectively.
  • Foster relationships with correctional institutions, families, and communities to expand CPOF's impact and services.

Advocacy and Public Relations

  • Act as the primary spokesperson for CPOF, representing the organization in media, public forums, and industry events.
  • Advocate for the recognition, respect, and support of correctional professionals and their families nationally.
  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders, including correctional institutions, government entities, nonprofits, and other partners.

Board Engagement and Governance

  • Serve as a primary liaison to the Board of Directors, providing regular updates on operations, finances, and programmatic impact.
  • Drive a strategic succession planning program to continue to hire top talent for staff and the Board.
  • Support board development and engagement, helping to recruit, retain, and inform board members.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and best practices in nonprofit governance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Business, or related field; or equivalent years of relevant management experience.  Education requirements can be substituted with work experience in one of the above-related fields year for year.
  • Minimum 10 years of leadership experience in nonprofit management preferred, preferably within organizations focused on public safety, community support, or advocacy.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, including membership growth, grants, cultivating donors, and community engagement.
  • Proven experience with financial management and budgeting for a nonprofit organization.
Skills and Competencies
  • Leadership: Ability to inspire, motivate, and guide a diverse team toward the organization’s goals.
  • Advocacy: Exceptional public speaking and communication skills; ability to represent CPOF’s mission compellingly and sensitively.
  • Relationship Building: Skilled in developing and nurturing relationships with various stakeholders, including donors, families, correctional officers, and community leaders.
  • Problem-solving: Adept at assessing complex challenges and implementing practical, mission-driven solutions.
  • Compassion: A solid commitment to supporting families and communities affected by the loss of correctional professionals.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This full-time onsite role is open to candidates who can reside permanently in the Sacramento area. In addition to a competitive base salary of $180,000 - $200,000+ (DOE) this incredible role provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental & vision insurance, FSA account, paid vacation starting at 10 hours a month (capping at 400 hours), 11 paid state/federal holidays, 401K with a 5% employer contribution, and an opportunity to lead a dedicated local and national team who are highly passionate about the mission and the work they are doing to help the families of CPOF.

TRAVEL:
This role requires occasional travel to attend events, meet with stakeholders, and conduct outreach efforts. The CEO will have the unique opportunity to lead CPOF in making a meaningful impact on correctional professionals’ families nationwide, honoring those who have served and providing a foundation of support for those in need.
